An exhibit featuring gifts from the people of France to the residents of Wyoming will be on display at the Historic Governors’ Mansion from June 5 through July 6.
The temporary exhibit, “The Merci Train: Gifts from the People of France,” details the story of how American aid to the people of France and Italy after World War II resulted in a boxcar of gifts to each state in America.
This exhibit features the gifts included in Wyoming’s boxcar which was received in 1949 by Governor Crane and state legislative dignitaries. Gifts included wedding dresses, candlesticks, a clock and other items.
The exhibit tells the incredible story of the Merci Train a highlights artifacts received by the state.
The Historic Governors’ Mansion is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
