Five Wyoming State Parks and their Kids eXtreme programs will benefit from a $5,000 donation from Devon Energy.
The parks that received donations are all in an area of Devon operations. These parks are: Keyhole State Park, Boysen State Park, Sinks Canyon State Park, and Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site. Devon Energy also made the donation of a GMC pickup for the Legend Rock State Archaeological site to be used as a working vehicle for the site.
The Devon donation will be used by the four parks in various ways:
Keyhole - The money Keyhole received will go towards their Bird Banding Station in which citizens engage in a science project to capture birds, obtain data, and put bands on birds in a nationwide monitoring project. The Keyhole Kids Celebration allows at-risk youth to learn about natural resources and participate in the bird banding station. Additionally, the Keyhole State Park Summer Family Program offers visiting park families educational activities such as bird watching, nature hikes, and water exploration.
Boysen - The money Boysen received will go towards the Kids eXtreme Youth Fishing Derby.
Sinks Canyon - The money they received is going towards the purchase of 26 headlamps and 26 flashlights for the safety of participants in the Kids eXtreme spelunking.
Medicine Lodge - This money will go towards the Paintrock Hunter Mentor Program's Outdoor Day. Skill stations for this day include: archery, air rifles, wildlife identification, building bird houses, archaeological dig, spin casting, .22 rifles, gold panning, flint knapping, ATV safety and antler scoring.
