In honor of National Travel and Tourism Week the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site will host “The Lincoln Highway- A Road to Somewhere Else,” May 10 at 3 p.m.

The event will consist of a special showing of the new PBS documentary “100 Years on the Lincoln Highway” along with a panel of historians and authors (Randy Wagner, Jerry Hanson and Dr. Phil Roberts) who will discuss the impacts of the Lincoln Highway in Wyoming.

The Lincoln Highway, built in 1913 and traversing more than 3,300 miles, cut across 12 states and four time zones. In Wyoming, the highway followed the route of the old Transcontinental Railroad and helped in the development and expansion of the state.

In conjunction with the event, the Wyoming Territorial Prison will also feature a new traveling exhibit “A Room for the Night” which explores the transformation of Wyoming’s roadside lodging from hotels to motels during the late 19th and 20th centuries. This temporary exhibit will open on May 10 and run until June 15.

The event is free to the public and will include refreshments. Call 307-745-3733 for more information.
