State Park fees change January 1

With the passage of House Bill 10 last legislative session, visitors to Wyoming’s state parks and historic sites can expect a slight increase in day use and camping fees during 2009. These new fees go into effect, January 1.

The new fees will benefit the department by raising current camping, entrance and lodge/shelter fees in an amount equal to the rate of inflation dating back to 1999 when State Park and Historic Site fees were last adjusted. Secondarily, the legislation allows the agency to collect an “Amenities Fee,” paving the way for such added services as electrical hookups, showers or camping structures.

Revenues generated through the collection of user fees are used to help fund improvements to Wyoming''''s state parks and historic sites.

Wyoming’s entrance, camping and lodge/shelter fees were last increased in 1999. A slight modification of the fees in 2001 resulted in the decrease of some non-resident fees. This decrease was necessary for the state to remain eligible for federal Land and Water Conservation Funds. Established by President John F. Kennedy during the 1960s, the LWCF has provided more than $33 million in grants for recreational projects throughout the state.

State officials do not expect the fee increase to adversely affect visitation at Wyoming’s state parks and historic sites.

The fee changes are listed below: Daily use fees for designated state parks, archaeological sites and recreation areas –resident, $2 to $4; non-resident $4 to $6.

Daily use fees for designated historic sites –resident, $1 to $2; non- resident, $2 to $4.

Daily Use additional vehicle pass, resident and non-resident, $5 to $7.

Overnight camping fees for designated state parks, archaeological sites and recreation areas – resident, per night, $4 to $6; non-resident, per night $8 to $11.

Annual daily use permit, purchased Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 (early bird discount), resident, $20 to $27; non-resident, $35 to $46.

Annual daily use permit, purchased after Feb. 15, resident, $25 to $33; non- resident, $35 to $46.

Annual overnight camping permit, resident, $30 to $40. The non-resident annual overnight camping permit will no longer be offered.
