Hot Springs State Park Hosts 3rd Annual Big Horn Basin Folk Festival

            The Third Annual Big Horn Basin Folk Festival, an event featuring Wyoming artists, craftsmen, musicians, storytellers, artisans, storytellers and guild members, will be held at Hot Springs State Park, August 5-6.

            The Festival includes demonstrations, hands-on activities for the whole family, the Kiwanis Craft Fair and Trading Post featuring arts and crafts vendors and a Food Court.

            A new feature this year will be the Wyoming Folk Masters Tent, sponsored by the Wyoming Arts Council and showcasing individuals dedicated to passing on their traditional skills to others.

            “The Festival brings together presenters from all around the state,” Toddi Darlington, one of the organizers of the events said. “This year also features a celebration of the Wyoming Arts Council’s 50thAnniversary.”

            The Festival is held the same weekend as the Gift of the Waters Pageant Days. A Pageant Parade will be held in downtown Thermopolis at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Shoshone Dancers performing at the Flagpole at 11 a.m.

            The Gift of the Waters Pageant, which tells how the hot springs were given to the state by the Native Americans on the Wind River Reservation, will be performed from 6-7 p.m. in the area around the Big Spring, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

            The Big Horn Basin Folk Festival is open to the public without charge. It is sponsored by the Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Hot Springs State Park with support from the Wyoming Arts Council, Wyoming State Legislature and Hot Springs Travel and Tourism. Additional support is provided from Hot Springs County Education Endowment, Thermopolis Community Fund and Pinnacle Bank.
