 June 13, 2018 Contact: Steve Horn, 307-320-3013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The third program in the Fort Fred Steele 150th Anniversary Celebration Series focuses on the Lincoln Highway at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., June 23 at the fort. The program is free and the public is invited. The Lincoln Highway was the first coast to coast automobile road in the United States. In Wyoming, the highway traveled roughly the route of the Transcontinental Railroad. In fact, in some portions of the state, the Lincoln Highway reclaimed and reused the abandoned bed of the railroad. It crossed into Wyoming at Pine Bluffs near the Nebraska border and traveled westward to Evanston. Walk part of the road and then join local historians to learn more about the adventure that was. Cake and refreshments will be served. Other programs during the summer-long series are titled Towns and Ghost Towns: A Storyboard Walk, July 7; 150 with the Railroad, July 21; Mining in Carbon County: A Storyboard Walk, Aug. 4; State Parks on I-80: A Storyboard Walk.
