  • Curt Gowdy State Park hosts Summer Outdoor Slam this Saturday

    For the ninth consecutive year Curt Gowdy State Park will come alive with a variety of outdoor activities for kids of all ages during the Summer Outdoor Slam, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

                Admission to Curt Gowdy and all the festivities are free and the public is welcome.

    “This is an event gets better every year and has been the catalyst to introducing many youth and families to recreational activities they can do in this great State,” Administrator, Domenic Bravo of the Division of State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails said. “Bring your bike, fishing poles, and hiking shoes and a plan on having a great time with friends and family.”

                A part of the Kids in Nature program and Wyoming’s Kids eXtreme initiative sponsored by Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails, the Summer Outdoor Slam provides exposure to outdoor events that many kids don’t often get to experience.

                Included in the list of activities available during the Slam are biking, hiking, canoeing, archery, play area, Arts and Fun and lots more fun activities.

                Additionally, “Wyoming Free Fishing Day” will be an all-day activity.  Please join us to celebrate “National Trails Day” and “Great Outdoors Month” with a day full of fun!

                Curt Gowdy State Park is located at milepost 23 1/2, Highway 210 (Happy Jack Road), once in the park head to the North Causeway campground.

  • Families Invited to Register for State Parks Summer Camp Out Event June 1-2

    Registration is currently underway for families interested in a night of free exploration and camping during the Wyoming State Parks Summer Camp Out, June 1-2 at Curt Gowdy State Park.

                    Beginning Friday, June 1 at 4 p.m., families will meet at Aspen Grove Trail Head to learn to camp and have the opportunity to participate in many other activities, including a night sky program!

    Tents, sleeping bags and other camping gear will be provided for the campout with up to four family members in one tent.  Children ages four and older are welcome.  Dinner and breakfast will be provided.

    Then on Saturday, June 2, families will have an opportunity to further explore the great outdoors by participating in the Tenth annual Summer Outdoor Slam beginning at 10 a.m.!

    Outdoor activities include:

    ·         Free Fishing Day

    ·         Canoeing

    ·         Archery

    ·         Wildlife Identification

    ·         WY Outside Challenge and More!

  • Ft. Bridger State Park hosts July 4 Kids Extreme Day

                Celebrate Independence Day with some good old-fashioned family fun during the 8th Annual Fort Bridger 4th of July Kids Extreme Day beginning at 11 a.m.

                Enjoy the annual 4th of July parade as it travels through Fort Bridger State Historic Site and stay for the many games and activities all about the solar eclipse with added prizes and refreshments.

    The games include an Eclipse Obstacle Course, Eclipse Investigation, and Eclipse Scavenger Hunt featuring $500 in coin prizes sponsored by 1st Bank.

  • Sinks Canyon State Park hosts guided cave adventure, Aug. 7-12

                See the Popo Agie River flow underground while living the life of a spelunker during Kids Caving Extreme, a guided cave adventure exploring Sink’s Canyon State Parks's Boulder Choke Cave, Aug. 7-12.

                Tours times each day are 10 – 11:30 a.m., 1-2:30 p.m. and 3-4:30 p.m. with a limit of 10 participants per time slot. Helmets and lights are provided, however participants are encouraged to bring light gloves, old clothes and sturdy shoes. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early.

                Tours will leave on time and a caving liability form for each participant must be filled out at the Visitor Center and signed by a parent or guardian.

                The cave is visitor friendly and while there are some areas where participant will need to be on their knees, most of the cave is accessible on foot.

                The cave tours are free; however participants must be registered in advance.

  • State Parks Hosts "Free Fishing Day," June 2

    In conjunction with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s  "Free Fishing Day", on June 2, daily use fees are waived at all parks/recreation areas that provide angling.  

    Wyo Parks locations offering free entrance are Boysen, Buffalo Bill, Curt Gowdy, Edness K. Wilkins, Fort Phil Kearny, Glendo, Guernsey, Keyhole, Seminoe and Hawk Springs.  Camping fees are not waived. 

    Fishing opportunities also exist at the following sites, which offer free entrance year-round; Bear River, Hot Springs, Medicine Lodge, and Sinks Canyon. 

    Free Fishing Day is offered annually by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and involves lakes and reservoirs throughout the state.
