About Our Site - Hawk Springs State Recreation Area

Hawk Springs State Recreation Area (HSSRA) is a small recreation site administered by the Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails Division (SPHS&T). The site consists of 24 primitive campsites, picnic tables and fire rings, boat launching ramp, boat dock, restrooms and playground. There are seasonally operated potable water hydrants. Water based (boating, fishing, swimming) recreation opportunities are the primary activities that bring users to the site. It is a very popular camping destination and has been long been known as place to go fishing along the southeastern border of Wyoming. SPHS&T regulates and manages the land based recreation opportunities at the site while the Wyoming Game and Fish regulates the recreational activities on the water.

Crews Removing Hazardous Trees at Hawk Springs

Contact: Ann Rose, 307-837-2084

Hawk Springs State Recreation Area is currently experiencing extensive trimming and removal of hazardous cottonwood trees affecting the campgrounds along the reservoir.

TigerTree, Inc. of Laramie has arborist crews working to complete the work in the next couple of months before the reservoir level rises.

Although the recreation site is open, the public is cautioned to avoid areas where arborists and their equipment are working.

Once the tree services are completed at Hawk Springs, the crews will be moving on to Guernsey State Park where they will be trimming trees at the Sandy Beach campgrounds.
