Park Rangers with Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources work across the entire state, serving all Wyomingites as well as the many people who visit our beautiful state. It’s not an easy profession — between our varied geography, weather conditions, and recreational opportunities — but it’s one that matters to the future of Wyoming.
Wyoming State Park Rangers subscribe to Ranger First philosophy. Ranger First is a mindset and proactive orientation, based on Community Oriented Policing, that values problem solving, visibility, influence and education, informal relationships, networking within local communities, local decision making, local accountability, planning, transparency, and fundamental interpretation and enforcement to achieve safe, secure, and orderly State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails.
State Park Rangers wear many diverse hats, but their general duties are to provide public safety, natural resource protection and visitor services for those areas. Depending on the day, location, and season, you may find a State Park Ranger involved with many of the following activities:
- Law enforcement
- Visitor Education
- Resource Protection
- Working closely with other park staff
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Search and Rescue
- Supervise, train, and evaluate temporary employees
- Administrative duties related to park activities and law enforcement proceedings
- Trail Work
- Boating, Mountain Biking, OHVs, and Snowmobiles
- Wildland Fires
