Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site hosts the Fifth Annual Kids’ Pheasant Hunt on November 25-26.

The event is an opportunity for families and friends wanting to hunt with young people ages 17 and younger to harvest pheasants, practice safe hunting skills, and enjoy the Piney Creek landscape at the historic Fort grounds.

Hunters will launch at two times during each day: 8:30 a.m. in the morning and 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon. All parties must include a minimum of one youth hunter and a maximum of one adult hunter. Additional adults are encouraged to accompany the party but will not be allowed to hunt.

Hunters wishing to participate in the Kids’ Hunt are encouraged to call Fort Phil Kearny Interpretive Center at 307-684-7629 to sign up with a staff person or leave a message with desired hunt time and day.  Hunters may also call or text 307-620-0331 to register. Birds are released before the event and space is limited.

The event is an opportunity for adults to demonstrate good hunting practices while making the youth experience a priority.  “Wyoming Game and Fish has been an excellent partner in providing this opportunity for hunters,” says Misty Moore, Fort Phil Kearny Superintendent.  “We love to keep this weekend open for kids to have the time and space they need to really get after a bird!”

Those wishing to register on the day of the hunt should arrive at 8 a.m. to register for the morning hunt and 12:30 p.m. for the afternoon hunt.  All hunters must have valid licenses and conservation stamps.

Cost is $2 per adult for Wyoming Residents and $4 per adult for Out-Of-State Hunters.  Hunters ages 17 and under will hunt free.  The Annual Fort Phil Kearny Kids’ Hunt is made possible by a partnership with Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
